Trinity

THE HOLY TRINITY

The Holy Trinity is the word given for the One Holy God.  Almighty God is a Triune God.  It is Three Persons in One.  It is only One God.  One deity, however, that has three distinct members, or persons that make up the one God.  Since we are so finite as human beings, we cannot comprehend the infiniteness of the Holy God in all of His Magnitude.  However, Scripture is clear.  The three Persons in one are God the Father, or Creator, God the Son, or Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit.  Each has its own personality and job, so to speak.  God is Love, and thus they operate in complete unity and love.  Ask the Lord God to reveal Himself to you, and to give you a peace as to Who He is in relationship to you.

God the Father:

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let then rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over al the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."  Genesis 1:26

Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.  Isaiah 40:28

But  you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.  Isaiah 63:16

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.  Isaiah 64:8

God the Son:

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.  1Corinthinians8:6

"All things have been committed to me by my Father.  No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him".  Matthew 11:27

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"  John 8:58

" Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father....I and the Father are one." John 14:9,10:30

"I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to my Father."  John 16:28

God the Holy Spirit:

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into he is likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2Corinthinians 3:17

So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hears as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did."  Hebrews 3:7-9

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this.  First he says:  "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord.  I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."  Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."  Hebrews 10:15-17

but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.  We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.  1Corinthians2:10,12 NIV

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." said Jesus. Matthew 28:19,20

Three personalities - One God

In the Bible, God is show with three distinct personalities. Each of these personalities has a different "job", yet they are the One True God. Some people think of this as a man can be a father, son, and husband, or a woman can be a mother, daughter, and wife, with each part of him/her having a distinctly different role.  God being God, and us being people, God is on a much grander scale.

The Roles:

For example, in Genesis, Chapter 1, verses 1, 2 and 3 =1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

Here we see the three distinct personalities of God. V 1 - shows God the Father, the creator. V 2 - shows God the Holy Spirit, hovering, thereby renewing the face of the earth. V3 - shows God the Son being the Word of God, by which all things were made.  (John 1)

These three distinct personalities, yet One God are referred to as the Trinity - a compilation of two words -- Triune Unity - That is three= triune and Unity = One. The Bible calls it Godhead or fullness of deity, and the Hebrew word Elohim (translated "God" in Genesis 1:1) actually indicates more than one divine personality. This same plural form is used over 2,450 times in the Old Testament. The Godhead is clear in the literal Hebrew translation of Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our Gods (plural) is Jehovah a unity."

The Bible refers to the Godhead in these verses:

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. Acts 17:29 KJV
For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Col 2:9 KJV
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, Col 2:9 NIV

God refers to Himself in plural when He is about to make Man, when He acknowledges that man has eaten from the tree of good and evil, when He is about to confuse the language at the tower of Babel, and when Isaiah is being commissioned work by the Lord.

Genesis 1        26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 3        22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
Genesis 11        7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
Isaiah 6            3 And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

God's Word speaks of the Son and Holy Spirit numerous times in the Old Testament.

Proverbs 30:4 4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and the name of his son? Tell me if you know! Isaiah 11:2

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him-

Isaiah 42:1 1 "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on Him and He will bring justice to the nations.

Also in : Isaiah 48:16 ,  Isaiah 61:1 ,  Isaiah 63:9   Ezekiel 36:26, 27 = 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Throughout the New Testament the Triune-unity is found, working together, simultaneously, all during Jesus' life.
