How to read the Bible

On this website you will see sentences with numbers before them, or after them.  They may look something like this: Psalm 51:1-17.  This means that the sentence (s) are from the Bible.

How to read these numbers:  Psalm 51: 1-17 means that you can find those words in the Bible, in the book of Psalms, in the 51st chapter, and the verses numbered 1 through 17, or sentences numbered 1,2,3,4,5,... and so on up to and including number 17.

To reconfirm: The Name of the Book with the Chapter number next to it. Then a " : " mark with the Verse (s) numbers following it.

For Example:    John 8:  31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.             ~This is also written as: John 8: 31,32,36     This means that you will find it in the Bible, in the book of John, in the 8th chapter, and the sentences, or verses are 31,32, and 36.  See the numbers by the sentences?  Sometimes you will see them, or sometimes it may be written as below:

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched -- this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.  We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make your joy complete.  1John 1:1-4            This can be found in the Bible, in the first book of John (1John), chapter one (1:) and verses (1-4), or sentences one through four.
